HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Walsh (R-Westmoreland) today announced Rostraver Township was awarded a $160,000 grant to improve the DiVirgillo Sports Complex.
The funding comes from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program under Commonwealth Financing Agency, which manages the state’s economic stimulus programs. The program funds planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects around the Commonwealth.
“We are very fortunate to have such a high-class sports complex in Rostraver Township,” Walsh said. “This facility has hosted WPIAL playoffs and championship games, Little League playoffs and various all-star games. By making needed and important improvements, the facility will continue to be a gem for our community.”
The grant will help fund Phase III of the almost 27-acre complex. This phase includes resurfacing, paving and lining the existing parking lots; paving additional Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) linkages between fields and playground; and installing lights around an additional ball field to allow for more playing time.
The 58th Legislative District in Westmoreland County includes Jeannette and Monessen cities, as well as East Huntingdon (part), Hempfield (part), Rostraver, Sewickley and South Huntingdon townships. Also, the district encompasses the boroughs of Adamsburg, Arona, Madison, Mount Pleasant, North Belle Vernon, Penn, Smithton, Sutersville and West Newton.
