HARRISBURG – To bring families together and provide important information about fire safety, Rep. Justin Walsh (R-Westmoreland) will be holding a Family Night Ice Cream Social on Friday, Sept. 7.

The event will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at the Crabapple Park and Pool Pavilion, 1415 Hermine West Newton Road, Herminie. Several local fire departments will be on hand providing information and apparatus with which children can interact.

“With the weather about to turn cooler as fall begins next month, it is important to review fire safety tips,” Walsh said. “Families should develop and practice a home evacuation plan in case of a fire. In addition, it is important to change batteries in smoke detectors regularly. I hope this event spurs conversations on steps that can be taken to avoid fires. I know families are very busy with fall activities, but stop by if you are available.”

To RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 5, please visit or call 724-929-2655.
