HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Walsh (R-Westmoreland) will host AARP Smart Driver Courses during the month of April.
The first session for those who have already taken the eight-hour driver safety course will be offered on Thursday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Turkeytown Fire Hall, 90 Supervisor Drive, West Newton. This one-day refresher course is only needed once every three years.
The second session, the two-day program for first-time participants, will be offered on Thursday, April 11, and Friday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Turkeytown Fire Hall, 90 Supervisor Drive, West Newton.
“Both of these courses are invaluable to remind older drivers about ways to be a better and safer motorist,” Walsh said. “Driving defensively and properly saves lives and prevents injuries. In addition, these seminars allow drivers ages 55 and older to receive a certificate for a minimum of 5 percent off their auto insurance coverage for three years.”
During the seminar, a safe driving instructor will discuss a variety of topics, including communicating with other drivers, risk management, airbags, sharing the road, road signs, signals and pavement markings. The cost is $15 per attendee for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.
RSVPs are required to attend. To RSVP or to learn more, please call Walsh’s district office at 724-929-2655.
