Walsh Supports 2019-20 State Budget
6/25/2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Justin Walsh (R-Westmoreland) today issued the following statement in response to the House passing a Fiscal Year 2019-20 state budget that spends below the rate of inflation:

“I’m pleased to again be a part of a General Assembly that has kept budget growth below the rate of inflation. In addition, through good planning and a robust economy, we are able to send at least $250 million from the current fiscal year budget to the Rainy Day Fund. This is the second consecutive year we have put money away in case of an economic downturn.

“Despite no new taxes or fees, we will increase basic education spending by $160 million and invest an additional $10 million in our career and technical schools. Our state-related higher education institutions, Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education schools and community colleges will see a 2% increase. Special education and PreK Counts will receive an additional $50 million and $25 million, respectively. This additional education funding will continue our commitment to preparing our young people for success in the workplace, whether they pursue a career in the trades or want to continue on with higher education.

“Passing an on-time, responsible budget is one of the key duties of the Legislature. I take this task very seriously and remain committed to spending tax dollars in the most prudent way possible.”
