Walsh: Funding for Area Fire, EMS Companies Announced

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Walsh (R-Luzerne) announced funding is being awarded to 34 emergency responder organizations in the 117th Legislative District under the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.

“Our fire and EMS companies are the backbone of public safety in our communities,” said Walsh. “These grants recognize their unwavering dedication and provide critical resources to help them continue saving lives and protecting property. I am proud to support these brave men and women who answer the call every day, and I thank them for their service.”

The following is a list of local fire and EMS companies and the amount of their grant awards:

   • Back Mountain Regional Fire and EMS (EMS) - $30,000.
   • Back Mountain Regional Fire and EMS (Fire) - $26,693.
   • Dennison Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 - $12,220.
   • Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department (EMS) - $15,000.
   • Dorrance Township Volunteer Fire Department (Fire) - $12,426.
   • Fairmount Township Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Co. (EMS) - $15,000.
   • Fairmount Township Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Co. (Fire) - $12,220.
   • Fearnots Volunteer Fire Co. - $12,838.
   • Freeland Fire Department - $14,899.
   • Freeland Northside Community Ambulance Association - $15,000.
   • Harveys Lake Fire and Ambulance Association (EMS) - $15,000.
   • Harveys Lake Fire and Ambulance Association (Fire) - $12,014.
   • Hobbie Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 - $12,426.
   • Hunlock Creek Volunteer Fire Co. - $12,014.
   • Jonathan R. Davis Volunteer Fire Company DBA Idetown Fire Company - $12,220.
   • Lake Silkworth Volunteer Fire Company - $12,632.
   • Mocanaqua Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 Inc. - $12,426.
   • Nescopeck Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 - $12,838.

   • Salem Township Volunteer Fire Company - $25,457.
   • Shickshinny Volunteer Ambulance Association Inc. - $15,000.
   • Slocum Township Volunteer Ambulance - $15,000.
   • Slocum Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 - $12,632.
   • Sugarloaf Fire Company (EMS) - $15,000.
   • Sugarloaf Fire Company (Fire) - $13,044.
   • Sweet Valley Ambulance Association Inc. - $15,000.
   • Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Co. - $14,487
   • Valley Regional Fire and Rescue Inc. (EMS) - $15,000.
   • Valley Regional Fire and Rescue Inc. (Fire) - $13,663.
   • White Haven Fire Company No. 1 - $13,457.
   • White Haven Rescue Unit Inc. - $15,000.

Projects eligible for funding under the grant program include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, reduction of existing debt, recruitment/retention, and public education about fire safety. 

The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). All funding comes from the proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not General Fund tax revenue.
